Continue ShoppingWhen I started this company I planned to make only unscented products, as I was so sensitive to scent. What a happy day when I learned the difference between synthetic fragrance & natural essential oils! 😊 Since then we've used only high quality 100% natural essential oils in our scented products.
Each of these scents first appeared in soaps & eventually, due to popular demand, we made them available in essential oil dropper bottles. In this format they are perfect for use on dryer balls, adding to your bath with our unscented soak base, placing in your diffuser & so much more. Please read on to learn the story of each of our signature scents. Leigh, The Soap Lady
Acadian Forest: This woodsy scent was designed to invoke the feeling of walking in the woods of Nova Scotia & to spark a reason to talk about our endangered indigenous forest. Of the many tree species, I chose essential oils of four to create what has become a favourite in our soapy community: balsam, birch, cedarwood & pine. Acadian Forest now features in a 3-in-1 bar, moisturizers & deodorant, head to toe oil, laundry powder & candles.
Be Mine (Patchouli): Early on folks asked for patchouli soaps & I must confess, I was reluctant. Exotic patchouli is polarizing . . . folks either love it or don’t . . . no middle ground, haha! 😊 So, I mixed in bergamot, geranium & orange to mellow it out & it’s now our most popular scent! Since patchouli is known as a lovers' scent, I launched a capsule of products on Valentine's Day 2015. Now, years later, it stars in soap, a 3-in-1 bar, head to toe oil, deodorant, moisturizers & laundry powder (thanks to Kim of O'Healthy Market for requesting an exotic laundry powder!).
Citrus: At the beginning I made Citrus soap using a cold process method. I learned, though, that the lemon & orange essential oils were simply too fragile to last in a soap. I tried it in soaks & candles with the same result. Then in 2014 I was asked to make a citrus version of our laundry powder by a lovely lady at the Truro Farmers' Market. As our first scented laundry powder, it took some adjusting to get the amount right & the customer was happy! I am so grateful to that person as Citrus is still very popular & we've since added three more scented laundry powders to our line. 😊
Lavender: This was my first scented soap & what a happy surprise to learn that I enjoyed the scent & it didn't bother me! Yeah! Now lavender stars in a 3-in-1 bar, bath soak, moisturizers & deodorant, body oils, candles & laundry powder.
Peppermint: Such a fun scent to work with! It’s a head clearer when stirring into hot soap & super-invigorating when the 3 pm doziness kicks in 😊 Peppermint stars in soap, head to toe oil, foot soak, candle & festive Candy Cane Soap.
Rustic Lemon: I first learned of this combination of lemongrass & cedarwood from Sandy Maine's Soap Book, a key resource when starting the company. This rich, citrus scent is long-lasting & stars in Lemon Scrub soap & a candle.
Tea Tree: When I started making shampoo bars folks began asking for a Tea Tree version, so make it I did 😊 Now in a refreshing 3-in-1 bar, it's a popular part of our line.

Signature essential oils:
Tip: No dryer ball? Pace a drop or two onto a clean rag & add to the dryer with the wet laundry.
Note: we do not recommend peppermint for bath soak, as it can irritate delicate tissue. Use in foot soak only.
Tip: No time for a bath? Plug the tub when you have your shower, then place one or two drops into the tub & enjoy the aromatherapy from the scented steam . . . happy sigh ![]()
Tip: Some scents will last longer than others before dissipating, which will vary the time needed between applications
Tip: There is a bounty of resources online to consult. Please do your own research to determine the best way possible for you to enjoy essential oils.
