The Pet Shampoo Story

This rich, unscented bar is filled with soothing honey & super-fatted with hemp oil (both sourced locally in Nova Scotia) to care for your pet's skin & coat. This scent-free pet shampoo lathers up really well, then rinses out quickly to leave their pets squeaky clean with no residue to irritate later. This gentle, yet effective shampoo has been used with great results on a wide range of pets including dogs & cats, horses & even a one-winged crow!

Ingredients

Sea water, vegetable shortening (soybean oil, palm oil [sustainably harvested]), coconut oil, olive oil, water, sodium hydroxide (lye), local Nova Scotia hemp oil & honey.

• Full bar: appx 100 grams* (cured)
• Mini bar: appx 20 grams* (cured)
• Bulk brick: appx 2 kilograms (made fresh to order)

During the curing process water evaporates & weight decreases, though shape remains the same. Fully cured bars are harder, so last longer, provided they are allowed to dry between uses.

How to Process Bulk Bricks

Cut to Desired Sizes & Shapes

• Using a non-serrated cutting edge (knife, pastry scraper, etc.) carefully cut the bricks into whatever size or shape you wish. 
• You can mold chunks of the brick like playdough, if you wish, to make a ball-shaped bar, too 😊
• Alternatively, you can soften some of the brick and roll it out, then cut into shapes with cookie cutters. Note: you may find it easier to roll out between sheets of parchment or silicone.

Cure

• Place the bars on trays lined with a mesh or rack (for airflow), ensuring you leave a bit of air space on all sides.
• Place the trays in a warm, dry place away from direct sunlight & heat.
• Allow 3-4 weeks minimum for the bars to dehydrate, which will make them harder so they last longer.

How to Use the Pet Shampoo

• Thoroughly wet area to be shampooed (e.g., fur, hair, feathers, etc.)
• Rub bar on wet area to create a rich lather
• Shampoo with a gentle massaging action 
• Rinse thoroughly with clear water
• Tip: The shampoo will rinse out squeaky clean, which may tangle longer strands of hair or fur. You may wish to comb out the tangles while your pet is still in the tub, as running water can help de-tangle the strands.
  

How to Get the Best Value 

• Allow bars to dry between uses to last longest
• Cut larger bars to use at multiple locations or later
• Store spares in dry spot out of direct heat
• Do not store in airtight containers or plastic
• Wrap wet bar in dry cloth when travelling
